ABOUT US

Our work collectively explores themes of dereliction, abandonment and the loss of industry. Featuring drawings, paintings and printmaking the work here shows a quiet and unpopulated environment where nature reclaims its space. We are left with remnants from another time and traces of human activity, which will eventually disappear to be replaced with something new.

We first exhibited together in 2019, showcasing our work which sat harmoniously together. Since then we have been plotting a second exhibition that was an extension from 'Fragments' - our first joint show. With the global pandemic our plans are on hold. We thought an online exhibition would be a great place to continuing sharing our work and stories during these strange times.  We hope you find inspiration amongst the decay.

JEMMA GUNNING

I have always had a love of drawing since I can remember. My passion for printmaking blossomed on my Drawing BA when we were introduced to the printroom. Instantly I was drawn in by the smell of the inks, the heavy presses and the lengthy processes. After my BA I came to UWE to study Multidisciplinary Printmaking. This developed my interest in industrial decline and using primarily etching and lithography to record our forever changing landscape.

Alongside my practice and working at UWE, I am currently carrying out a research fellowship at the City and Guilds art school in London, working closely with master printmaker Jason Hicklin. In 2018 I was awarded a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship to support the two-year fellowship opportunity.
I am a co-founder of Bristol Print Collective where our aim is to keep the traditions of printmaking alive by offering accessible and engaging workshops for all members of society.

After receiving an Elizabeth Greenshield Grant in 2019 I set up my own print studio at Estate of The Arts in South Bristol.

MARK LIPPETT

My work focuses on drawing and painting with a particular focus on texture and atmosphere.  I am drawn to quiet or abandoned sites such as derelict factories, war ruins and woodland and aim to capture the sense of place through my art.  I am fascinated how nature takes over a space once we have left and the way the landscape changes over time.

I gained a BA (hons) Fine Art at Cumbria and an MA in Painting at Wolverhampton.  Since then I have exhibited across the UK in a number of solo and group shows as well as featuring in national Open Exhibitions.  I split my time between my art practice and teaching.
